Himachal Pradesh is situated in Northern India and comprises of 12 districts. Himachal Pradesh has a total area of 55,673 sq km but railway track is accessible to just a few places in Himachal Pradesh as the region is mountainous. Himachal Pradesh has two narrow-gauge rail tracks. The Kalka-Shimla railway track (about 96 km) and the Pathankot-Jogindernagar track (about 113 km). Both tracks are commercially unviable but are operated only because of their heritage value. The state has around 15 main railway stations.
